Christian Brother Oceania Province - A New Website

The newly elected Congregation Leader, Melbourne’s own Br Peter Clinch, joined members of the Oceania Province, including Br Gerard Brady at the Oceania Province Centre in Parkville, Victoria, to formally launch the new website.

“Greetings everybody,

Thank you for allowing me to join you today on the occasion of the launch of the Oceania Province’s new website. It is an exciting time for Oceania Province as a new website is now available to all who have an affiliation and connection with the Edmund Rice story and legacy.

Shortly we will be taken on a tour of the new site. You will see how the design has boldly embraced the feel and sense of the entire Oceania region and I would like to commend everyone involved with the project for prioritising the search for a relevant spirituality for today in promoting the opportunities for formation and highlighting the Oceania mission as we outreach to our suffering planet and to those made poor by society.

I hope that there is ownership by many brothers and Edmund Rice people of this unique platform as a means of keeping the Edmund Rice Story alive and relevant.”

Br Peter Clinch has been elected Congregation Leader for the new Congregation Leadership Team. Peter is only the second Australian to be elected Congregation Leader in the Chapter’s history.

The Treacy Centre in Parkville is where the Christian Brothers Oceania rests on the timeless land of the peoples of the Kulin nation, for whom the Melbourne area was a centre of trade, celebration, spirituality and law. Peoples from all over Victoria would come to ‘Melbourne’ and each group had their designated camp. What became Royal Park was traditionally a camp area for Koorie peoples from the Geelong and Western districts. In 1861 there was a gathering of Wathourong, Bunurong, Woiwurrung and Kurnai/Gunai peoples. At a time when the effects of colonisation had decimated each of these groups and exacerbated warfare between them, these people pledged peace amongst each other.
