Ambrose Treacy Day
Today is Ambrose Treacy Day, a day to celebrate Patrick Ambrose Treacy and his legacy. Coming to Australia from Ireland in the 1860s, Ambrose worked tirelessly, and at times thanklessly, to establish schools for Catholic boys in the hope of a better future for them. He also championed the status of teachers and advocated for teacher training. His virtues of commitment, initiative, humility, faith and hope are a lasting legacy which lives on.
This week we also celebrate another contemporary of Catholic Education, St Mary MacKillop who, like Ambrose Treacy, was a pioneer in establishing schools across the country in 1800s. Their work and mission have many parallels, none more notable than the pursuits of justice, love and opportunity for marginalised children. Join us in saying this prayer:
