Br Gerard Brady

Gerard Brady is currently Province Leader of the Christian Brothers. He attributes his love for learning gained primarily from the Brothers who educated him at St Patrick’s College. They were men of scholarship, well versed in current issues and prepared to engage students’ questions in the turbulent 70’s. Gerard has been a class-room teacher, on leadership teams and Principal. He was offered the opportunity to study a Bachelor of Theology and this impacted on the way he attended to an emerging youth spirituality. He was involved in the writing of guidelines for Religious Education, and had papers published on adolescent spirituality. His Master’s thesis at Loyola Chicago was focused on creating pastoral responses to youth coming out in their sexuality in a Catholic school system. He studied family systems and practiced as a counsellor. He is currently focusing his attention on a systemic approach to leadership and its impact on transformation.

I grew up in the Western District of Victoria, a country lad by birth. I am close to my extended families both in Victoria and Western Australia. My education was with the brothers in Ballarat who opened my eyes to a wider world of learning , academia and exploration. I gain much from exploring spirituality, inspired by my work with young people over many years. Being around our brothers as they age reminds me of their wisdom, their rich lived-experiences and their vulnerabilities. I look forward to working with you in becoming an Edmund Rice people in a global community.
